BEIJING, July 20) -- A total of 199 talented artists and technicians joined the operation center of the opening and closing ceremonies for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on Friday.They include 25 designers, 30 workroom leaders and 144 other professionals. Before joining the center, they have worked for at least three months with the center, which is a prerequisite for anyone wanting to be officially appointed as a team member.Among the dignitaries who issued the appointment letter to them were He Zhenliang, member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), chairman of IOC Culture and Olympic Education Commission, and member of the bocog/executive/index.shtml' target=_blank>Executive Board of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG); Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice-president of BOCOG; and Zhang Yimou, chief director of the ceremonies.Jiang Xiaoyu encouraged the new staff to show patriotism, to be innovative and to work hard, to promote teamwork and unity and to pursue perfection and hew heights to offer high-level ceremonies and win the love of people across the world and Olympic fans.In his speech, He Zhenliang recalled the progress of the Olympic Movement in China and the process of Beijing's Olympic bids, and expounded the significant impact of the Beijing Olympics and the importance of the ceremonies to the success of the Olympic Games.Sources said smooth progress has been made in the preparatory work for the ceremonies and the creation schemes have gone through the review process.
